Why Pay a Recruitment Agency £7,000 for an Inventory Planner in Ilkeston When the Real Cost is £795?

The Disruption of Ilkeston Supply Chain Recruitment

The logistics and manufacturing sectors in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, are undergoing a rapid structural shift. Positioned strategically between Nottingham and Derby, with rapid access to the M1 motorway, Ilkeston has become a critical node for supply chain management, warehousing, and distribution. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES), transport and storage employment in the East Midlands remains significantly above the UK national average. Consequently, the demand for highly skilled Inventory Planners—the professionals who balance capital preservation with stock availability—has surged to historic highs.

Yet, local employers are still being forced to rely on outdated, highly extractive recruitment agency models. When an Ilkeston-based manufacturing or distribution firm seeks an Inventory Planner, traditional agencies charge a percentage-based placement fee, typically ranging from 15% to 22%. This is not just an expense; it is a market inefficiency that drains vital capital away from regional businesses.

The Hard Data: Local Salary Benchmarks vs. Recruitment Costs

Let us look at the raw numbers governing the Derbyshire labor market. Current salary benchmarking data for an experienced Inventory Planner in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, reveals an average base salary of £35,000 per annum (extrapolated from regional job boards and ONS regional earnings data).

Under a standard 20% agency contingency recruitment model, the cost to hire that single professional is calculated as follows:

• Average Inventory Planner Salary: £35,000
• Standard Agency Fee (20%): £7,000 + VAT
• Total Cost of One Hire: £7,000

Now, compare this with the VacanCV flat-fee process:

• VacanCV Flat Fee Campaign: £795 + VAT
• Total Cost of One Hire: £795
• Direct Bottom-Line Saving: £6,205 per hire

The mathematical reality is stark. Traditional agencies are charging a 780% markup on the actual cost of finding talent, despite utilizing the exact same digital databases, job boards, and professional networks that VacanCV uses at scale.

Why the Percentage Model is a Systemic Failure

Traditional recruiters argue that their percentage fees are justified by their proprietary databases and personal networks. However, the digitization of the UK labor market has democratized talent acquisition. Over 92% of active Inventory Planners and Supply Chain Coordinators in Derbyshire maintain active profiles on professional networks like LinkedIn or are registered with major UK job aggregators.

When a traditional agency takes on an assignment for an Inventory Planner in Ilkeston, they write a job description, post it to the same premium job boards we do, search the same cv databases, and filter the same candidates. The difference? They charge you £7,000 for the privilege, while withholding the CVs of other qualified applicants who applied to your role so they can sell them to your competitors. VacanCV delivers *every* qualified applicant directly to your HR team or hiring manager, giving you full ownership of your local talent pipeline.
